UCI has created a new Institute for Immunology that expands research on treatments of immune-system illnesses and diseases such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and diabetes. According to director Dr. Paolo Casali (shown), the institute allows for a broader range of immunology research and supports collaborations among biological sciences and medicine faculty members and their colleagues in biomedical engineering, public health and other campus areas. The institute also hosts a year-round speaker series that will culminate in the annual Immunology Fair in November and played a key role in establishing the Jeffrey Modell UCI Diagnostic Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies at the Gottschalk Medical Plaza this month.
