NIH Awards Center for Complex Biological Systems $2 Million

The UC Irvine Center for Complex Biological Systems has been awarded $2 million over two years from the National Institutes of Health under the Grand Opportunity program for a multidisciplinary study of feedback control in cancer cell lineages in solid tumors. The grant supports high-impact ideas that may lay the foundation for new fields of study. The principal investigators are Arthur Lander and John Lowengrub (shown). Co-investigators Eva Lee, Natalia Komarova, Max Welling and Dominik Wodarz also will work on the study. The researchers come from various academic backgrounds including developmental & cell biology, math, biological chemistry, computer science and ecology & evolutionary biology.
