| Students network with alumni to explore career
interests and engage in mutually beneficial, professionally oriented
relationships. Undergraduate students of The School of Biological
Sciences at UCI are eligible to participate.
Mentor Defined: A mentor is an advisor who may provide academic
or career guidance, networking opportunities, and insights into
the working world. Similar career goals, shared interests, or common
academic backgrounds provide the foundation for the student/mentor
relationship. The student and the mentor will mutually agree upon
the nature of the relationship.
Guidelines to becoming a Mentor: A successful mentorship involves
initiative on the part of both the student and the mentor. The following
list includes activities and steps that you may take to benefit
your mentee.
- Be approachable and accessible by e-mail and/or telephone.
- Attend an on-campus event (if you are local).
- Schedule a visit to your workplace (if you are local).
- Participate in activities related to common interests.
