Howard A. Schneiderman was Dean of the School of Biological Sciences at UC Irvine from 1970 to 1979. During the decade that he led the school as Dean, he encouraged the recruiting of a strong faculty, and inspired them to excellence, he mentored and interacted with hundreds of students who have gone on to be leaders in their fields, and he put the School of Biological Sciences on the map for its outstanding programs, faculty and students.

For his pioneering research in insect physiology and developmental biology, Dr. Schneiderman became a member of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as other scholarly societies, a recipient of numerous prestigious national and international awards, and at UCI, recipient of the coveted UCI Medal.
