| Description: |
|
The hormone, epinephrine, enhances memory in rodents and humans by releasing glucose from hepatic stores into blood. Glucose, in turn, directly enters the brain to regulate brain mechanisms of memory formation. In aged rats, epinephrine no longer releases glucose into the blood, leading to reduced brain extracellular glucose levels and to impaired formation and maintenance of memories for recent experiences.
