| Description: |
The Earth's climate is out of balance and is warming. Over the last two centuries we have mined and burned fossil fuels, cleared forests, developed agriculture and industry -- all at scales never before seen on the Earth. The consequence has been the rapid pollution of our atmosphere that is driving climate change. Professor Michael Prather will review the current scientific understanding of global warming. Professor Diane Pataki will discuss options for mitigating and adapting to changes at the local scale, including the potential use of biological and ecological approaches. Both Professor Prather and Professor Pataki will address the uncertainties and likely risks for southern California. Discussion will include frequently asked questions and common misconceptions about climate change.
