We are pleased to announce two exciting upcoming events. The first event celebrating stem cell research at UC Irvine is a symposium organized by, and featuring the work of, our outstanding pre- and post-doctoral fellows supported by a training grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). It will be held on Wednesday November 18th at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. The Keynote speaker is Dr. Mathew Blurton-Jones, a graduate of the training program. A copy of the meeting announcement is attached. At the end of the symposium there will be a reception and poster session followed by a dinner starting at approximately 6.30 pm. The dinner speaker is Dr. Douglas Wallace, Director, Center for Molecular & Mitochondrial Medicine and Genetics and a mentor on the CIRM training grant. Attendance is open to all and is free. The second event, a career workshop designed to help students and postdocs plan for the next stages of their careers, will be held the next day on Thursday November 19th again at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. The workshop will feature two panels of experts, one from academia and one from industry. The panels will answer questions about strategies for finding jobs, what different job opportunities are available and what they entail, how to get the right type of training or experience and what are the ingredients for success in different fields.
