Note: If you are interested in applying to a foundation, please
contact Betty Leidal, Director of Foundation Relations, at 824-6248.

SCOPE: The Barth Syndrome Foundation is inviting grant applications
for research on this disease, a frequently fatal genetic disorder
affecting boys. Barth Syndrome is an X-linked recessive,
cardioskeletal myopathy associated with neutropenia, growth delay, and
diverse biochemical abnormalities, among which are defects in
mitochondrial metabolism and phospholipid biosynthesis.

DEADLINE: Letters of intent are due June 30.

FUNDS: Up to $100,000 will be available for multiple one- or two-year
seed funding grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000.

ELIGIBILITY: Principal investigators affiliated with nonprofit
institutions.

AREAS: Because many clinical and biochemical abnormalities of Barth
Syndrome remain poorly understood, the Foundation is seeking proposals
for research that may shed light on any aspect of the syndrome. The
goal is to find treatments, and ultimately a cure, for this rare
disorder.
