| Graduation with Honors . Of the graduating seniors, no more than 12 percent will receive "Latin" honors: approximately 1 percent summa cum laude , 3 percent magna cum laude , and 8 percent cum laude . The selection for these awards is based on winter quarter rank-ordered grade point averages. To be eligible for honors at graduation, you must file an application to graduate in the Biological Sciences Student Affairs Office by March 24, 2006. You must be able to verify completion of all coursework by the end of spring 2006 and be officially declared as a Bio Sci major. Seventy-two (72) quarter units in residence at a UC campus must be completed by the end of winter quarter 2006. In addition, any corrections to your academic record must be processed by the Registrar's Office by March 24, 2006. If completing the "Language other than English" (Category VI) breadth requirement with a language exemption test, you must have passed the test before March 24, 2005 . Students with a record of any act of academic dishonesty are not permitted to receive honors. Summer 2006 graduates are not eligible for honors for the 2005-2006 academic year but will be considered for the 2006-2007 year.
Biological Sciences Honors Program. The Honors Program provides Bio majors the opportunity to pursue advanced independent research through participation in the Excellence in Research Program and earn Honors in Biological Sciences upon graduation. Parameters of the Honors Program include:
Minimum 3.5 cumulative gpa
Minimum 3.5 major gpa
Minimum 3 quarters enrollment in research (Bio Sci 199)
Successful completion of the Excellence in Research Program
Enrollment and completion of Bio Sci H195, a 2-unit Honors seminar |
