Biological Sciences Residence Requirement - Fall Quarter 2001
Freshmen
Beginning Fall Quarter 2000, students entering the School of Biological Sciences as
freshmen must complete all of their major requirements on the UCI campus, once they
matriculate. This includes the humanities requirement for the School. Exception:
Students who do not complete Chemistry 1 A,B,C,LB,LC during their first year will be
allowed to complete this sequence at another institution over the summer between their
first and second year at UCI. This is important so that the student can begin organic
chemistry fall quarter of their sophomore year.
Change of Major into Biological Sciences
If a student enters UCI as another major and then changes to Biological Sciences,
all of their remaining degree requirements must be completed on the UCI campus.
Transfer Students
Students transferring to UCI in the Biological Sciences who began college
fall 1998 or after will also be held to this requirement.
Academic Requirements of First Year Biological Sciences Majors
Students entering as Biological Sciences majors will be required to complete the
following in order to remain in the major after their third quarter at UCI:
- Chemistry 1A, B, C, LB, LC with an average GPA of 2.0. (Or if placed into Chemistry 1P then Chemistry 1P, 1A, 1B and LB.)
- Bio Sci 94 and 96 with an average GPA of 2.0.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the end of the first year.
- Completion of the Subject A Requirement.
- A spring quarterly GPA of 2.0 or better.
After their first year if students have not met all of the above requirements
but have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better, they will be requested to change
their major to Biological Sciences/Unaffiliated, and will then sign a one-year contract
to complete the requirements to change into another major at UCI by the end of their second year.
