What are we and what do we do?
Our program offers free tutoring to students who seek assistance in their biology courses.
We offer tutoring for all the Biological Sciences Core courses (Bio Sci 93, 94, 97, 98, 99 and
other major required courses (D103, D104, D105, E106, E109, N110.) These sessions are taught by
fellow undergraduate students who have previously taken the course and have excelled in their
understanding of the course materials. The tutorial sessions are structured according to the
tutor's style and knowledge to provide maximum benefit to the tutees. While there are no
commitments or fees required by the tutees, students are encouraged to seek assistance as needed.
The location and time of the sessions vary according to the lecture and quarter.
Tutoring information is announced during the first week's lecture and is posted on the board of
every lecture thereafter. For Fall Quarter 2007, we will be offering tutorial sessions for:
Bio 93, Bio 97, D103, D105 and E109. We hope to see many of you take advantage of our service.
Interested in becoming a tutor?
We select new tutors every quarter. The applications are available year-round, but we do most
of our recruiting during the seventh and eighth weeks of the prior quarter (i.e. recruiting for
winter quarter will begin during the seventh or eighth week of fall quarter).
Interviews are held immediately after the applications are due. The names of selected tutors,
along with the tutoring schedule, will be posted outside the Bio Sci Student Affairs Office
(SH 231) after all the interviews have been completed. Tutors earn 2 units - for a grade.
If you're interested in becoming a tutor, stop by the Bio Sci Student Affairs office (231 SH),
read through the guidelines and responsibilities and fill out an application! You can download
an application at www.eee.uci.edu/programs/biotutor
