Now that you've learned all the reasons for studying biology
at UCI, please visit our Admissions web site for more complete
information on applying to UCI as well as to make arrangements for
a campus tour (http://www.uci.edu/admissions/).
For those of you wishing to enter UCI as freshmen, we strongly
encourage you to complete math through precalculus, take chemistry
and physics, and complete as many honors and advanced placement
courses as possible. We have found that students who have learned
excellent study skills and time management techniques often required
in these types of classes may have a smoother transition to UCI.
Special information for transfer applicants: While detailed
information regarding admission requirements is available at the
UCI Admissions Office web site listed above, transfer students should
be aware of additional requirements beyond the standard requirements.
In order to be considered for admission to UCI as a Biological Sciences major,
you must have completed one year of general chemistry with a minimum of "B" grades in each course, one year of biology classes which articulate to the first year biology courses at UCI with a minimum grade of "C" grades in each course, and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. For equivalences to UCI's
biology courses as well as other required courses, please refer
to ASSIST at http://www.ASSIST.ORG/.
If you can also complete organic chemistry, calculus and the statewide
IGETC (Interstate General Education Transfer Courses) prior to transfer,
you will be well on your way to earning your degree in four years.
Our Student Affairs Office is always happy to assist you in helping
to plan your classes for a successful transfer to UCI. Please call
(949) 824-5318 to make an appointment
OR email one of our counselors.
We offer an excellent one-day program, Transfer Track, for
all community college students interested in applying to UCI. The
Transfer Track is held in the fall every year. Please refer to http://www.reg.uci.edu/UCI/ADMISSIONS/transfer_track.html
for more information.
Interested in becoming a physician or other health care professional?
You've arrived at the right place! Over 70% of our graduates
continue their education in one of the health professions. UCI
has earned an excellent reputation for preparing students particularly
well for the rigors of the academics required in medical, osteopathic,
dental, optometry, pharmacy, and many of the other health professional
schools. Our B.S. in Biological Sciences fits perfectly with the
prerequisite courses of medical, osteopathic, and dental schools.
Students interested in pharmacy, optometry and other areas will
also find the curriculum fits particularly well and can satisfy
nearly all prerequisites by careful selection of upper-division
biology classes. Because of the large interest in health professions,
our counselors are especially well-trained in advising and assisting
students in preparing for and applying to professional schools.
