The UC Irvine Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences is proud to share news of a new book co-authored by Professor Georg Striedter, titled Bird Brains and Behavior: A Synthesis, now available from MIT Press.
Written in collaboration with fellow avian neurobiologist Andrew Iwaniuk, the book offers a compelling and accessible look at the neural mechanisms underlying bird behavior — blending decades of scientific research with a genuine appreciation for the fascinating complexity of avian life. From sleep cycles and seasonal rhythms to problem-solving and evolutionary insights, Bird Brains and Behavior brings the latest scholarship to a wide audience.
Designed with engagement in mind, the book includes QR codes that link to video demonstrations of bird behaviors and their study, and will be available Open Access for broader reach.
Congratulations to Professor Striedter on this exciting contribution to the field!
