February 23 @ 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
About the Workshop
Discover how generative AI can help streamline your research and scholarly writing processes. In this five-hour, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to use AI tools to conduct literature reviews, receive feedback on draft proposals and manuscripts, and refine your writing for clarity and readability.
Speakers from UC Irvine Libraries, the Office of Information Technology, Beall Applied Innovation, and the Dunlop School of Biological Sciences will discuss available tools and resources, such as ZotGPT, PubMedGPT and Google Scholar Labs, as well as share effective prompt engineering strategies and outline ethical use considerations — including sponsor and journal policies. You’ll also hear real success stories from BioSci faculty who are already integrating generative AI into their research workflows.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical techniques for using AI tools to support literature synthesis, proposal development and manuscript writing
- Strategies for prompt engineering that improve clarity, structure and efficiency
- Guidance on ethical use, transparency expectations and sponsor/journal policies
- Examples of real AI-enabled research workflows from BioSci faculty
- A deeper understanding of ZotGPT tools available to UCI researchers
Breakfast, coffee and lunch provided. This workshop is designed exclusively for faculty in the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences.
