Awarding Exceptionally Innovative Research

Professor Aimee L. Edinger (Developmental and Cell Biology) is the recent recipient of a 2017 pilot award from the UCI Institute for Clinical and Translational Science.  An expert cell biologist, Professor Edinger has discovered a new compound that restricts nutrient uptake by cells.  With her new award, Professor Edinger seeks to determine whether her new compound can mitigate the metabolic dysfunction caused by obesity in mice, by restricting nutrient uptake at the cellular level.   Aimed at accelerating the transition of discoveries from the laboratory into clinical applications, the pilot award seeks to fund exceptionally innovative translational research at UCI.
