Members of the UC Irvine Chief Executive Roundtable were hosted by Dean Frank M. LaFerla for a Research Excursion and Reception on the afternoon of October 6, 2014 at the Crystal Cove State Park Historic District. This hands-on experience highlighted the work of Biological Sciences School scientists and showcased a number of Citizen Science programs underway at Crystal Cove. The event included short scientific talks by Dr. Matthew Bracken, Dr. Cascade Sorte, Dr. Sarah Kimball, Dr. Jessica Pratt and Dr. Jennifer Martiny in addition to Dr. Travis Huxman, Director for the Center of Environmental Biology. Topics ranged from remote weather monitoring to bacteria levels in local ocean waters. Harry Helling, President and CEO of the Crystal Cove Alliance, and Laura Davick, their Director of Public Affairs, served as on-site hosts for the event which had over 50 attendees. The program demonstrated the unique public-private partnership between Biological Sciences School, Crystal Cove State Park and the Crystal Cove Alliance.
