Justin Schaffer, Ph.D., a lecturer PSOE in the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology at UC Irvine, was recently appointed a New Case Scholar. The Science Case Network, a newly established Research Coordination Network for Undergraduate Biology Education, centers on expanding the use of and knowledge about two effective teaching approaches: case studies and problem based learning (PBL). Dr. Shaffer will be involved in developing new Case studies and PBL exercises and assessing how these affect students in ability to formulate questions and analyze data while still mastering appropriate content. For more information about the Science Case Network see http://sciencecasenet.org
