Engaging Our Alumni

IMG_0355Distinguished Professor and Biological Sciences School alumnus Anthony A. James (B.S. ’73, Ph.D. ’79, Biological Sciences) kicked off the Bio Sci Alumni Chapter’s Fireside chat series on April 21 at The Den in UCI’s Newkirk Alumni Center.  Appetizers and refreshments were served while they heard Professor James discuss his recent endeavors in fighting malaria, including the generation of his revolutionary malaria-resistant mosquito.

Professor James, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, and Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, sits atop his research field and has contributed greatly to the advancement of entomology (the study of insects).  Recently he was named one of Orange County Register’s Top 100 Most Influential People in recognition of over 20 years of research on insect vectored diseases. Professor James was introduced by Dean Frank M. LaFerla, who remained throughout the event to chat with the alumni in attendance.
