Abstract: Given recently-passed laws in various states, marijuana prohibition appears headed for the same fate as alcohol Prohibition decades ago. Other drug prohibitions, however, maintain strong popular support both in the United States and abroad. These prohibitions continue despite their many consequences. There are also implications for law enforcement relating to conflicts between state and federal law. As the national conversation on drug policy enters a new level of political significance, what are the actual issues at hand?
