Dear Graduate Students,

In collaboration with the UCI Humanities Center, Professor Steven Allison (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; Director, Ridge to Reef program) is facilitating a series of Zoom workshops that will prepare participants to communicate their research to non-specialist audiences across a range of media types:

Communicating Your Research to Public Audiences

Oct. 14, 9-10am: Let’s Talk About Research
Sandra Tsing Loh (Performer and Author)

Oct. 28, 9-10am: Writing for the Masses
Rebecca Tuhus-Dubrow (Journalist)
Erika Hayasaki (UCI, Literary Journalism)
Suellen Hopfer (UCI, Public Health)

Nov. 18, 9-10am: Mastering Web and Social Media
Annabel Adams (UCI Director of Communications, SOH)
Laura Rico (UCI, Social Media Coordinator)

Dec. 2, 9-10am: Nailing the Job Interview
Bri McWhorter (Founder and CEO, Activate to Captivate)
Danny Mann (Director of Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Instruction, UCI DTEI)
Ken Schiff (Deputy Director, Southern California Coastal Water Research Project)

The workshops are geared toward communicating environmental science research but are broadly applicable across disciplines. Communicating complexity in accessible language and in multiple contexts furthers the impact of your research and positions you more competitively on the job market
